The Montessori Academy of Chambersburg exists today because one person believed deeply in the power of Montessori education and had the courage, passion, and dedication to bring that vision to life: our beloved founder, Mary Jane Bittle.
For decades, Mary Jane poured her heart and soul into building a place where children were seen as capable, curious, and full of potential; where families found a community; and where educators were inspired to grow, learn, and continue the important work of guiding children. Mary Jane understood that the heart of a Montessori school is its teachers. She believed that exceptional educators have the ability to transform not only classrooms, but the lives of countless children and families. She dedicated herself to mentoring teachers, sharing her wisdom, encouraging others to follow their passion, and ensuring that the Montessori philosophy would continue to flourish for generations to come.
In honor of Mary Jane’s extraordinary life and legacy, the Montessori Academy of Chambersburg established the Mary Jane Bittle Scholarship Fund for Montessori Teacher Education. This scholarship carries forward her greatest passion: supporting and preparing the next generation of Montessori educators.
Through this fund, individuals who feel called to Montessori teaching will receive financial support as they pursue their teacher education journey. By removing barriers and opening doors, we can help ensure that passionate educators have the opportunity to answer their own calling - just as Mary Jane did.
